Features & Purposes

An intervention in healthcare is defined as an action or procedure that is undertaken to arrest, improve, reverse or correct a condition that impairs or threatens a patient's health or life.

This site was designed by physicians to help patient's, their family members and healthcare workers understand details of various disease states or conditions and the interventions that are used to treat them. We will deal with simple measures such as lifestyle modification to complex procedures such as coronary artery stenting and repair of aortic aneurysms.

Introduction

Interventions.com is a sister site of Heartsite.com and was designed to educate patient's and their family members about various interventions that are employed in the treatment of cardiac, vascular and other medical conditions. The contents of this site have been developed by experienced and highly qualified physicians who perform these procedures on a regular basis. We will be adding content on a weekly basis. Please come back.

This video below displays an animation of a longitudinal view of a beating heart. Please note the mitral and tricuspid valves open during filling of the left ventricle (LV) and right ventricle (RV), respectively. These valves shut when the two ventricles start contracting or emptying. At that time, the aortic and pulmonary valves open up to allow the blood to be pumped into the aorta and pulmonary arteries (PA). The PA returns the oxygen-poor blood to the lungs to be "re-oxygenated" while the aorta sends the oxygenated blood to the rest of the body.

This video below displays an animation of a cross-sectional view of a beating heart. The cut was made just above the right (RV) and left ventricle (LV). Please note the mitral and tricuspid valves open during filling of the LV and RV, respectively. These valves shut when the two ventricles start contracting or emptying. At that time, the aortic and pulmonary valves open up to allow the blood to be pumped into the aorta and pulmonary arteries (PA), respectively.
