Before we begin with discussions of coronary artery interventions, it is important to first get a basic understanding of the coronary artery anatomy. This section was designed to provide such an overview of the heart and the blood vessels (coronary arteries) that carry blood to it and provide nutrition and oxygen to the chambers. A temporary deprivation of blood supply is called ischemia while a more prolonged disruption of flow can cause heart muscle death or a heart attack.
